Why are we developing CivicAI?
From knowledge gap, lack of resources, technical expertise to AI for all, diversity and inclusion
01
Knowledge gap in Generative and Conversational AI
Civil society and socially beneficial organizations are at risk of falling behind in digitalization due to a lack of knowledge and experience in generative and conversational AI.
This knowledge gap prevents organizations from taking advantage of the opportunities offered by modern AI technology.
02
Lack of technical expertise and experience
Organizations lack the technical expertise and experience required to develop tailored AI solutions adapted to their specific needs and challenges.
Without this expertise, it will be difficult to implement effective AI tools that truly solve the organization's problems.
03
Lack of financial and human resources
Many non-profit organizations face increasing demands on their services while having limited financial and human resources.
This creates a paradox where organizations can streamline their processes using AI, but lack the resources to invest in the technology.
The costs of AI development, implementation and maintenance often become insurmountable barriers. Without targeted support efforts, the gap risks growing further.
04
Lack of diversity and inclusion in AI development
AI systems risk reinforcing existing societal structures and biases when they are not developed with diversity and inclusion in mind.
With the Association Assistant, we want to democratize AI, and make this powerful and important technology available in a simple and safe way to socially beneficial organizations. We are convinced that "right" developed AI contributes to a strong and resilient society. Where everyone has a place.
Our journey
From vision to reality
CivicAI began with a vision to democratize AI for civic organizations.
By offering a unique platform to easily create, train and use a customized AI assistant, we make this powerful technology accessible to everyone.
Today, CivicAI is developed in close cooperation with civil society, public administration and business to include different perspectives, challenges and solutions. This creates diversity. With a team of dedicated people, we create social and technological innovation that has real benefits.

Goals and values
Our mission
Making advanced AI available so that more people can do more with existing resources. By offering cutting-edge solutions, we want to be an innovative partner for socially beneficial organizations. We want to create a society that includes and works for everyone.
Our values
Our values are characterized by diversity, integrity, responsibility and pushing social and technological innovation forward. We believe in creating an open and inclusive environment where learning collaboration and change are key to success.
Who is responsible for the development of CivicAI?
Civic Innovation are the initiators responsible for the development and management of the platform. We have more than 20 years of experience in social and technological innovation and are used to running complex innovation projects in partnership with the non-profit and public sectors.

About Civic!nnovation
We are a non-profit organization. We develop social and technological innovation that creates social benefit.
We run our own development projects in close collaboration with carefully selected partners. Some of these are KIND at KI, SOLOM AB, Barndiabetesfonden, Unizon kvinnojourer, MIND, SNAPH, aiD, Sheffield University.
We were founded in 2015 by a diverse group of people, ranging from social workers, neurodivergent engineers to UX designers, project managers and life artists who all have a passion for people and technology, preferably in combination.
We offer an ecosystem of products and services in three areas:

Some of the projects we have initiated and developed
Mariko, a digital assistant that makes it easy to create a visual daily schedule. The project was run in collaboration with Autism Stockholm County. Mariko currently has over 2,700 users and is growing every month. New target groups will be included in 2025 (financed by Arvsfonden) Read more at https://mariko.se
The ICF Core Sets platform for autism and ADHD is a tool for functional mapping and analysis. The platform is unique in the world and is developed in close collaboration with the Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institutet (KIND). Read more at https://ki.se/kind/icf-core-sets

Future applications of
AI - Pioneering to create societal benefits
These examples go beyond today's capabilities and represent visions of how AI, with advanced development and ethical management, could help solve complex societal challenges in entirely new ways. They require breakthroughs in AI research, data management and regulation.
These futuristic examples illustrate the potential for AI to not only streamline existing processes, but to actually help solve some of our most complex societal challenges through advanced analytics, prediction and personalized support, provided they are developed and implemented with robust ethics, transparency and human control.
AI that simulates complex societal impacts:
Example: An AI that can analyze and predict the long-term, complex and interconnected effects of different policy proposals or major societal interventions (e.g. the impact of a new unemployment law on crime, public health and education levels over 20 years). AI could simulate these effects on different population groups and geographical areas before decisions are made, enabling a whole new level of evidence-based and preventive social planning to avoid unintended negative consequences.
AI as a proactive life navigator for vulnerable individuals
Example: A deeply empathetic and personalized AI that can analyse an individual's unique situation, history and needs. The AI would not only refer to existing resources, but continuously adapt support, identify barriers and proactively suggest next steps in the individual's journey towards greater stability and well-being (e.g. support for chronic homelessness, addiction or long-term mental illness). The system would 'get to know' the individual over time in a way that current technology cannot, acting as a trusted digital facilitator that complements human interventions.
AI that identifies systemic societal risks in real time
Example: An advanced AI that can analyze the "pulse of society" by anonymously and aggregately analyzing patterns in open data, social media feeds, economic indicators and other data streams. The aim is to identify early, elusive signs of systemic stress, increasing segregation, the spread of disinformation that threatens social cohesion, or other societal risks before they escalate into crises. The AI would alert relevant actors and suggest potential actions, based on simulated impacts, to preserve societal stability and prevent serious problems at the macro level.

Child Diabetes Foundation
The Children's Diabetes Foundation works towards a future without type 1 diabetes. We support research aimed at preventing, curing or alleviating type 1 diabetes in both children and adults. We believe that research can defeat type 1 diabetes with the right resources and our vision is to find a cure by 2040.
Every year, 2,000 people are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, of which 1,000 are children. No one knows why and no one is cured. The disease requires intensive self-care around the clock, for life, and despite new modern technology, many suffer serious complications and premature death. We want to change that!
